LUX EVERYDAY, COPYWRITER

July 2018 – September 2019

My role at Lux Everyday expanded from solely deal copywriting for Scoopon to a much larger range of editorial and marketing responsibilities. In addition to deal copywriting and editing, I took total ownership of the brand’s blog channels and engaged in numerous ad hoc marketing responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Writing engaging, SEO-friendly copy for all new deals and editing the work of other writers, which required strict attention to detail
  • Rebranding and improving the appearance/functionality of both the Scoopon and Cudo blogs
  • Partnering with an external agency to overhaul the blogs’ SEO friendliness and implement SEO best practice
  • Creation and maintenance of a new editorial content calendar for data tracking, ideation and strategy
  • Crafting SEO-optimised copy for all new deal landing pages
  • Creating copy for display ads and re-engagement EDMs
  • Assisting customer experience and vendor relations with mass customer communications
  • Paid social (upskilling)
  • Management of the Scoopon Instagram account (@scooponau), which has over 26,000 followers
  • Implementing a new Instagram content strategy designed to drive organic and paid traffic and conversions

Key Wins

  • Single-handedly redeveloped, redesigned and rebranded the Scoopon and Cudo blogs
  • As a result of my work, the Scoopon blog saw a 320% increase in traffic, while the Cudo blog saw a 242% increase over a 12-month period

Through Facebook advertising alone, multiple blog posts have delivered an average ROAS of 10+ and, in total, have generated over $76,000 in revenue from March through September 2019

FREELANCE

During my time off after Over60, I took on some freelance work, including writing a 2,000-word “superguide” for TechLife magazine issue 79.

OVER60, CONTENT PRODUCER

March 2016 – March 2018

I began at Over60, a popular online news and lifestyle publication for Australian retirees, as a Junior Content Producer in March 2016. My role evolved significantly over the two-year period of my employment, culminating in a promotion to Content Producer in May 2017.

Responsibilities

  • Pitching story ideas
  • Covering breaking and trending news stories under strict deadlines
  • Crafting quality evergreen pieces about everything from travel and finance to health and entertainment
  • In-depth research and interviewing experts, community members and entertainment figures such as Jeffrey Archer and Noni Hazlehurst
  • Writing effective native and advertorial articles for large clients such as AustralianSuper, Flight Centre and the Garvan Institute
  • Maintaining an editorial calendar
  • Managing and scheduling content to the Over60 Facebook page (with 420,000+ followers at the time of my departure)
  • Google Analytics reporting
  • Curating content for EDMs
  • Sourcing and editing images
  • Uploading content to the CMS

Key Wins

  • Wrote a significant number of top-performing articles (100,000+ views)
  • Had 11 of my articles republished to Stuff.co.nz, New Zealand’s largest news website
  • Consistently outdid competing publications (with much larger audiences than Over60) in social media engagement, despite having zero marketing budget

INFODEC COMMUNICATIONS, JUNIOR COPYWRITER AND CASUAL ADMINISTRATOR (PART-TIME ROLE)

As my first role in media and communications, my time at Infodec Communications gave me invaluable exposure to and experience with all aspects of marketing and public relations, allowing me to work closely with small to medium businesses from many different sectors including media, finance, health and legal, as well as individuals, industry groups and politicians.

The digital publishing sister company of Infodec Communications, I helped coordinate and write for two of its digital magazines, Me Timeand Early Educator. The articles written for these publications required extensive research and conducting interviews with people all around Australia via the Internet.

I AM A BOAT PERSON , FREELANCE MEDIA OFFICER (VOLUNTEER ROLE)

November 2013 – July 2015

As Freelance Media Officer for I Am A Boat Person, a charity aimed at celebrating cultural diversity within Australia and providing educational resources to asylum seekers housed in detention centres, the majority of my role involved creating and sharing images for the charity’s Instagram account. I also participated in events where I helped increase awareness of the charity and its work.
